5.500m²
The integration of a 5.500m² industrial building into an existing clinical centre demands a particular kind of design and planning.
Logistic requirements had to be harmonised with the location
A three-nave building body was the basis of the design. It shows only a small silhouette towards the hospital area and develops the technically necessary height near the border of the premises only. The changing heights of the naves and the incorporation of many ribbon glazings and roof lights allows for a nearly natural air ventilation of the building. Technical air ventilation and air conditioning installations could thus be avoided. Together with state-of-the-art system engineering and an ecological water treatment facility the laundry is not only economical but also ecologically innovative.
The laundry is provided with washing by seven hospitals. Once the conversion has been completed 120 employees could treat up to 30 tonnes of washing, roughly equivalent to 6.000 household washing machines a day.
