The conversion of the old marzipan factory belongs to the most beautiful buildings which PUNKTEINS has ever planned and implemented. It posed a considerable challenge concerning the planning and construction, for the task consisted of converting an old industrial building, built at the turn of the century, into a modern research and development centre. The exterior was to be preserved while light and transparency should be the predominant factor inside the building. To achieve this goal PUNKTEINS decided to take a radical and courageous move.
The building was almost completely gutted
The roof was opened and the whole building was cut conically, three floors from the top. In line with the old building the elements steel and masonry were used for the supporting structure. The technological centre, laboratory, microbiology, marketing, production as well as the technical department, R&D and the department for the development of wrappings are now combined under one roof. Very short ways of communication, transparency of the working processes and the idea of openness for new development could be combined in one building.
The result is stunning and impressive at the same time. When entering the façade and the character of an old industrial building transform to the modern atmosphere of a light-flooded office and laboratory building. A representative centre was created, which definitely will be the centre point of Schwartauer Werke GmbH in the future.
